Seniorsafe®
Quality of life
and safety for seniors
Seniorsafe® Program:
Residences with verified quality of life and safety.
The WHO (World Health Organization) considers active aging as a "process of optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security, to improve the quality of life of aging people".
Worldwide, Portugal is among a group of countries where the proportion of people aged 60 or over is growing faster than any other age group. According to INE (National Institute of Statistics), PORDATA (National Data Protection Authority), the aging index increased from 27.3% in 1960 to 182.1% in 2021. In 2022, 23% of the population was over 65 years old and 50% were over 46.8 years old.
Given this demographic situation and in order to create conditions of well-being for active and healthy aging, Lemonsafe® developed the Seniorsafe®.
This program aims to assess the safety conditions in which elderly people live, whether in their own homes, nursing homes, or day centers, with the goal of improving or adapting existing conditions to the individual needs of each person.
Safe infrastructure and equipment in environments frequented by the elderly have a very positive impact on their physical and mental health.
When we refer to safe infrastructure and equipment, we mean facilities that are accessible to people with reduced mobility, ramps, elevators, handrails, non-slip floors, fire alarms, fire extinguishers and properly identified evacuation routes, as well as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, hospital beds and other medical devices that help the elderly to move around and carry out their daily activities safely.
The existence of safe infrastructure and equipment increases the quality of services provided and lends credibility to institutions that house or care for the elderly, conveying confidence to their users and their families.
The Seniorsafe® is an independent assessment of the safety of facilities, infrastructure, and equipment available to each senior citizen, and aims to distinguish best practices and encourage continuous improvement.
Verification Areas
The Seniorsafe® program is exclusive to Lemonsafe® and helps identify potential safety-related issues by covering aspects such as:
How to act during and after the Seniorsafe® inspection
The inspection carried out within the scope of the Seniorsafe® Program focuses on the on-site verification and evaluation of existing spaces and equipment. The caregiver must provide existing records, procedures, and policies, as well as identify a liaison person who will accompany the Seniorsafe® technician during the activity.
If situations requiring improvement or correction are identified, the responsible party must implement the necessary actions to achieve compliance.
After the process is completed, Seniorsafe® makes the Seniorsafe® seal available.
How to obtain the Seniorsafe® seal
